About VAAA

Healthy Aging Show

The Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) is excited to announce the implementation of the Healthy Aging cable show. It began with the idea of educating the community on senior issues, which in turn lead VAAA to the Flint Comcast Public Access.

The intent of the Healthy Aging show is to provide the community access to information and current events that are available through VAAA and other local agencies or organizations. The show will address issues and concerns that pertain to senior citizens.

Flint Comcast Public Access provides the use of the studio and equipment free of charge to area residents. VAAA staff registered for workshops such as editing, graphics, directing and producing that the Comcast staff conducted. Once the workshops were completed and some hands on training time in the studio had been documented, the agency was on its way to producing a cable show. The show is produced at the studio of Flint Comcast in Genesee County.

Kathryn Boles, Executive Director, of VAAA is the host of the monthly Healthy Aging show. The first show aired in October 2005. Some of the shows topics include: Elder Abuse, Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Nutrition for the Elderly, and Wellness Prevention.

The Healthy Aging show is beneficial to the homebound seniors who can watch the program to keep aware of whats going on within their community and to keep informed of issues and concerns for the senior population. In addition, tapes are sent to communities that do not have access to Comcast cable such as the Lapeer Senior Center in Lapeer County and the Owosso Senior Center in Shiawassee County.
