Senior Needs Survey
VAAA received a $49,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint from the Community Impact Fund-$26,003.90, Arthur Tuuri Health Fund-$20,464.00, Leroy Ball Fund-$2,396.87, and the Burroughs Memorial Fund-$135.23. The grant dollars were used to conduct a social research survey regarding Genesee County senior citizens current and future needs. The research was coordinated and directed by Dr. Robin Widgery, President and Senior Research Associate for Social Systems Research Institute.
The purpose of this research was to interview a sample of senior citizens in Genesee County to assess their various needs and to learn more about their characteristics not included in census reports. The objective of this research was to:
· Better understand the type of physical, social, psychological, economic and environmental needs of seniors
· Better predict the types of needs seniors will have in the next ten years
· Better understand how well current needs are being met
· Better understand who is using which services, why certain services are not being used
· Identify what elements of community life most affect the quality of life for seniors
· Develop a fuller demographic profile of seniors than is provided by Census data
· Assist VAAA and community agencies to develop services that will meet current and future needs
